Super Metroid
To most die-hard Metroid fans, Super Metroid is the perfect game. What looks at first to be a remake of the original Metroid quickly unfolds into a brilliantly told and presented gaming experience that has few rivals.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Is your favorite Zelda game A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time? Usually, the answer to that question has to do with how old you were when each came out. It's difficult to say which game did more for the franchise, and for gaming in general, but whichever, A Link to the Past is one of a kind.

Final Fantasy VI (III US)
What we saw in the US as Final Fantasy III was really Final Fantasy VI. The first of the games to meld the fantasy underpinnings of the franchise with a post-apocalyptic setting, VI was a triumph on every level, and stands to this day for most as the high point of the Final Fantasy franchise.

Super Mario World
Most caught Super Mario World as a pack-in for the Super NES, and what a pack-in it was. Beautiful to see and hear, exciting and entertaining to play, Super Mario World is the peak of Mario's 2D existence.

Super Castlevania IV
While Castlevania IV was conceived as a retelling of the original NES Castlevania story, it outdid the original in every way. Konami's developers managed to integrate every one of the SNES's graphical special effects, and it's a spectacle even today.

Final Fantasy IV (II US)
Originally released on the SNES as Final Fantasy II, what is actually Final Fantasy IV was a revolution in both the franchise and in RPGs, boasting excellent graphics and sound and an engaging storyline. While VI bested it in most areas, IV is still a fan favorite.

Tetris Attack
Probably the best puzzle game on the system, Tetris Attack has returned in superior forms since, most notably as Planet Puzzle League for Nintendo DS. That said, it was the best you could get in its day.
